The Yukon Child Care Association was formed in 1974 to promote quality child care. The original six objectives were:

·        Public relations and public education about child care.

·        Establishment of regulations for maintenance and operation of child care facilities.

·        Programming and staff qualifications.

·        Arranging inspection and enforcement of regulations.

·        Training staff.

·        Acquiring and distributing funds to child care facilities.

 

Since its formation the Yukon Child Care Association has represented families and caregivers while promoting quality child care. YCCA was instrumental in the development of services in the Yukon. Over the years YCCA worked on:

·        Developing the Day Care Ordinance (1979)

·        Establishment of a Day Care Services Board (1979)

·        Day Care Act and Regulations (1980)

·        Subsidy Program (1981)

·        Day Care Coordinator (1983)

·        Regulation upgrades (1986)

·        Direct Operating Grant (1986)

·        Capital Grant (1986)

·        Discussion paper and Information sheets (1988)

·        Subsidy program upgrades (1990)

·        Yukon College ECD program (1990)

·        Funding for preschools (1990)

·        Establishment of Child Care Services Unit (1990)

·        Child Care Act (1990)

·        Establishment of the Yukon Child Care Board (1990)

·        Subsidy rates increased (1991)

·        Caregiver training requirements (1995)

·        Changes to the Direct Operating Grant (1995)

·        Lifting of the moratrium on the DOG (1999)
